GERSTAECKER | N° 5 multiblok A2, 42 cm x 59,4 cm 160 g/m²
Faber Castell Polychromos & Caran d'ache Luminance
3 months & own reference

I was on a run at the start of February all through April. Then May came along and I began this piece. It took me 3 months. 12 Weeks. At the speed of a snail. With many cloudy, rainy days in between, the darkness was very uninspiring. Leading to have it covered days at a time and once 2 weeks without a single stroke. I remember why I don't really enjoy drawing in winter. But a few sunny spells here and there, I managed to finish it today (it was supposed to be stormy again, but the sun is still smiling at us). I did make use of the wetter days to study a lot of programming, so it was not wasted!

I wanted to draw the market for a while. I took MANY references on market days. Even though this is not the market itself, but a line at the market for fries, it still shows the ambience I wanted. Maybe one day I will dare draw the actual stalls, as messy as they are. That will definitely be a burst of color!

At the end, I had to darken the foreground with red, which creates a purplish hue on the darker values. But this way it brought it to life, as now the foreground comes out of the blended, softer background. I have to say, I am very much enjoying this style.

I already have a few ideas I want to work on and looking forward to it!
